Barrhead Travel - Just A Drop
The Health Centre serves a population of around 40,000 people and offers services such as antenatal care, immunisation, some surgery and maternity services – between 5 and 10 babies are born here every day.
Water and effective sanitation and hygiene are obviously crucial to the delivery of such essential services, but the Centre lacks proper water and hygiene facilities.
The 4 water tanks are filled when it rains, but as they’re quite small, they often run dry. As the nearest alternative source is over 2km away, the Centre then buys a supply of water, at considerable cost and at the expense of other services.
When Just a Drop visited, the small latrine block was dirty and smelly and not fit for purpose.
Just a Drop brings sustainable safe water, sanitation and hygiene projects to communities around the world. Safe water improves health, education, women’s rights, leads to secure food sources, economic growth and brighter futures. It completely transforms lives, especially those of women and children.
Just a Drop’s project work is currently focused In Cambodia, India, Kenya, Nicaragua, Uganda and Zambia. We work with communities to implement solutions which best suit their needs, such as rainwater harvesting systems, wells, sand dams, water distribution systems, bio-sand filters, latrines, and sanitation and hygiene training.
We have reached over 1.4 million people in 32 countries since we began in 1998.
