Important information about travelling – our travel checklist

The world is beginning to open back up for tourism and at Barrhead Travel, we’re looking forward to helping you and your family getaway and explore new destinations.

The travel experience may look slightly different than it was before but our experts are here to help you find the right information ahead of your trip.

We’re working closely with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to help direct you to the right information for your trip. As the coronavirus pandemic is ongoing, travel advice is always subject to change and sometimes at short notice. Please remember, it is your personal responsibility as a traveller to ensure you are well-informed about travel advice as you may encounter new rules and regulations abroad. If you have any further questions, our teams will do their best to help point you to the right source of information.

We recommend following the below checklist as an information guide to help you prepare for your holiday abroad.

Before you travel
  • Make sure you visit the FCDO’s website to find out all the important information you might need to know about your particular destination including familiarising yourself with entry requirements and local guidelines. Visit their website and find information about your destination with their A-Z guide by clicking here
  • Ensure you have adequate travel insurance to cover your trip. It is essential you choose the right type of insurance for your own specific requirements. Speak to our team about adding Barrhead Travel’s recommended travel insurance policy on to your holiday. Please note that some destinations may require proof of travel insurance which covers Covid-19 when entering the country. You should always carry a printed copy of your travel insurance when travelling.
  • Read up on the UK Government’s Safer Air Travel Guidance which advises you of recommended precautions to take during travel. Remember, it is mandatory to wear masks in UK airports and onboard flights. Not all airlines will provide you with a mask so we recommend you bring your own.
  • Sign up for Foreign Office Travel Advice email alerts for your destination. Find your destination on their A-Z destination index and select “get email alerts.”
  • Arrange any necessary PCR tests. Remember, at the moment, there is a requirement for at least one PCR test on your return. As all returning passengers must take a test on or before day 2 of your return, you should look to make arrangements for this before travel. Ask our team about our government-approved testing providers or view the UK Government’s full list of approved testing providers.
During your trip
  • Every destination, resort, cruise line or tour operator may have its own measures in place to protect the health of their visitors and customers. Please remember that every country, cruise or hotel is different and you should familiarise yourself with each before travel. Measures that you may be requested to comply with could include, but are not limited to:
    • Temperature checks on arrival
    • Health screening forms
    • Pre-departure locator forms
    • Social distancing
    • Wearing masks
  • You must be prepared to comply with any local health measures and protocols. Plan ahead and ensure you know what each destination’s approach to Covid-19 is. Find out more information about travelling overseas during coronavirus by visiting the Foreign Office’s coronavirus advice page.
  • Keep an eye on destination updates while you are abroad – sign up to alerts from the Foreign Office and follow their updates on social media.
  • Always stay informed of any updates to entry requirements for returning home to the UK. Travel advice – including for returning UK citizens – is subject to change at any time. You can use the FCDO alert service to follow any inbound changes.
  • Remember, your holiday will have 24/7 emergency in-resort support. Contact details can be found on your booking documents.
Returning to the UK
  • You no longer need to take a pre-departure test before returning to the UK unless you are not fully vaccinated or are returning from a Red List Country.
  • If you test positive for Covid-19 before returning to the UK, you must follow local guidelines. We recommend you contact your travel insurance company immediately.
  • As you will be required to take a PCR test on or before day 2 of your return (and day 8 if you are unvaccinated), we recommend you make these arrangements in advance of your trip
  • All passengers returning to the UK are required to complete a passenger locator form no earlier than 48 hours prior to arrival in the UK. This form should be completed in the resort before you board your return flight home. Find out more information here.
  • Ensure you are up-to-date with entry requirements and understand the rules when arriving from countries that are not included in the travel corridor list. You may need to quarantine on return if you travel from out-with these countries. Keep up to date with quarantine and travel corridor information on the Foreign Office website.
