Dalaman is one of those holiday destinations that has never gone out of style. In ancient times, it was a holiday spot favoured by the Greek gods Pegasus and Apollo. These days, it is a lively tourist spot full of Blue Flag beaches and historical sights.
Marmaris is the hub of activity in Dalaman. It is larger than most Mediterranean resorts and packs a fair punch. It is home to two major marinas (and a few smaller ones punctuating the coast) making it popular with divers and sailors. Then along the beach, you’ll find rows and rows of cafés, restaurants and bars. Then, if you’re seeking some culture, there’s the old town that boasts a traditional Ottoman castle.
Elsewhere in Dalaman, you’ll find Icmeler and Olu Deniz. These two resorts are perfect for people seeking a lively beach-scene with bars, restaurants, shops and water sports. Then there’s the relative newcomer of Sarigerme, which proudly looks onto a 12km beach.
Then away from the striking beaches and the main town of Marmaris lies a mountainous backdrop. If you’re up for an adventure, rent a 4x4 to start exploring or set out on a hike. And don’t forget that Dalaman is also within day-tripping distance of Ephesus, which was once the second-biggest city in the Roman Empire.
