I have worked in the travel industry for 25 years. I have travelled to well over 30 countries, and I am lucky enough to have travelled extensively through Europe, America & New Zealand.
I have also travelled to some destinations not on the beaten track such as Israel, Jordan, Brazil, Hawaii & Japan.
I love history & heritage sites so my holidays are always based on what I can see/do in that destination.
The below gives you a guide an idea on my most recent travels!
Sorrento in Italy. I have always wanted to visit the famous Herculaneum, to add to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, which I had seen on a previous visit. You need a good few hours in each of the historic sites to get a good sense of the scale and history. I walked over 5 miles around Herculaneum.
TOP TIP:
The Amalfi Coast is a must-do by Sea as you get a completely different perspective of the area.
Lake Como in Italy. The towns around the lake are easily accessible by hydrofoil or ferry, and nothing beats coming into Bellagio by boat, eating at a Lake view restaurant or getting lost in the medieval streets of Como.
TOP TIP:
IF you are feeling a little peckish and want to quench your thirst, order an alcoholic drink as you get free snacks ranging from a sample of local specialities to a full-on pizza!
I go to Greece every year, the culture, the food, the heritage and of course the fantastic weather means it remains a firm favourite - Delos, Meteora and Olympia are some of the UNESCO heritage sites I have explored.
I have visited many of the Greek Islands. However, my favourite resort, Parga, is on the mainland. Parga has the WOW factor and is so stunning with a lively harbour that is overlooked by the castle and dramatic limestone cliffs.
TOP TIP:
Ferries are cheap & clean, so why not go to another island for the day?
Olu Deniz, Turkey, was a new destination for me this year - I normally go All-Inclusive to Turkey however decided to try self-catering, and it did not disappoint - plenty of restaurants with a beautiful large sandy beach surrounded by mountains. The famous Blue Lagoon is nearby & is in walking distance. If your an adrenalin junkie, paraglide down onto the beach from the mountains high above. If not sit and watch the world go by with a cocktail from one of the many tavernas.
TOP TIP:
I would pay to go into one of the Beach Clubs on the Blue Lagoon with private facilities, the food and entertainment in the day will mean you will need for nothing, and they are reasonably priced.
Jamaica:
We stayed in a lovely 4-star hotel in Montego Bay for a chill-out holiday, the food here is some of the best I have eaten in the Caribbean, and the entertainment was second to none. I was lucky enough to be invited to Rose Hall Plantation House for a ghost tour and to swim in Glistening Waters. This is one of the very few places on earth that you can experience bioluminescence (this is where the water turns electric blue when you splash or jump into it).
TOP TIP:
I would highly recommend booking Club Mobay for arrival at the airport, this enables you to be fast-tracked through arrivals and escorted to a VIP lounge whilst you wait for your fellow passengers to pass through security.
I love a quick city break too. On the most recent city break I travelled to Budapest. There are lots of things to see & do, Buda is where you find Fisherman's Bastion, the castle & Gellert Baths. On the other side of the Danube is Pest, this area is flatter & is where you will find the Jewish Quarter, the Ruin Bars & Shoes on the Danube. Be warned, the latter is very poignant.
TOP TIP:
Book a Hop on Hop off bus tour prior to travelling to make most of your time in this city. This also includes the Danube by night, which is not to be missed.

From our first enquiry 12 months prior to our holiday, through to booking and departure, Clare and her staff at the Doncaster branch have been first class. They listened to our requirements and worked hard to provide what turned out to be a fantastic 2 weeks in Italy. They kept us informed all the way and the call from Clare to wish us a good break one week before departure was a nice touch. Even while we were away we were able to speak to Clare and her colleagues to book additional transportation between centres when public transport times were proving difficult and all was sorted out quickly and efficiently. We can't recommend the Barrhead Doncaster team highly enough and will use them again in the future - just brilliant!

Clare and her team are fantastic .we booked with our daughter for her wedding in kos at the Blue Domes resort . It was fantastic the hotel was amazing.The wedding and holiday was really special we thoroughly enjoyed it .Claire and her team did us proud they was really great from start to finish .We have just booked again with Claire to go to Tenerife end of this month ..This is the third holiday we have booked with the Doncaster branch and once again it as been amazing .
