This morning, travel along parts of Old Route 66. Arrive at the Grand Canyon, a UNESCO site. See the remnants of ancient volcanoes as you drive to Grand Canyon Village. Enjoy the small town feel, complete with restaurants and shops. Pass through Williams, a charming town nestled at the base of Bill Williams Mountain before arriving in Flagstaff. Hotel: Ramada Flagstaff East

This morning, sample the flavour of Flagstaff’s pioneer beginnings at an Iconic Breakfast. After, explore Monument Valley on an all-terrain vehicle with your private Navajo guide. Marvel at the immense monolithic rock formations jutting hundreds of feet from the valley floor. Walk in the footsteps of John Wayne and other historic Southwest figures. Arrive in Page, home to stunning Lake Powell, where the evening is yours to relax. (IC) Hotel: Quality Inn Lake Powell

Head toward Zion National Park. Explore the bottom of the main canyon where sheer colourful sandstone walls rise thousands of feet above the canyon floor. Continue onto Bryce Canyon National Park, where mesmerising, red sandstone awaits. (CB) Hotel: Best Western Plus Ruby’s Inn

Explore Bryce Canyon National Park with pinnacles and oddly sculpted formations called hoodoos, created by wind and water erosions. Head north to Salt Lake City where you’ll stop at historic Temple Square, home to the six-spired Temple and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The evening is at leisure. Hotel: Comfort Inn Downtown Salt Lake City

Today, head for rugged Wyoming and travel alongside beautiful mountain ranges before arriving in Jackson. On arrival, stop at Town Square, famous for its iconic antler arches guarding the corners of George Washington Memorial Park. Wander around the square, lined with restaurants, bars and shops selling genuine cowboy gear. (CB) Hotel: 49er Inn and Suites

Later this morning, head north for magnificent Grand Teton National Park with stops at the Moran Lookout and along the scenic Jenny Lake Loop. In Jackson, you have free time to relax. This evening, perhaps partake in an optional cowboy cookout. (CB)

Enjoy the Teton Range as you follow the Snake River to Yellowstone National Park. The world’s greatest concentration of geysers and mountain wilderness, this park is home to grizzly bears, wolves, bison and elk. See Fountain Paint Pots, Lower, Middle and Upper Geyser Basins and, of course, Old Faithful. (CB) Hotel: 320 Guest Ranch

Explore more with a visit to Mammoth Hot Springs, located on a hill of travertine. See the dramatic Grand Canyon of Yellowstone with its turbulent river and twisted pink and yellow rock cliffs. (CB) Hotel: Buffalo Bill Village
