A natural wonder like the Rocky Mountains is not where you’d expect to find a cosmopolitan city like Denver.
For years the city was simply a stopover to Colorado’s world-class ski resorts, or as a gateway to one of nature’s greatest wonders - but now it is an urban playground with delicious restaurants, a thriving craft beer scene, and an enviable arts community.
The city is split into distinct neighbours, each with their own culture and crowd. At the heart of the city lies Lower Downtown (LoDo), the oldest settlement in the city that is now home to upscale restaurants and cocktail lounges that are housed within a mix renovated warehouses and state-of-the-art modern buildings. While surrounding the centre, you’ll find the Highlands Neighbour that houses some of the city’s best boutiques and restaurants, Cherry Creek which is the primer shopping district, and the hipster River North (RiNo) which is a mecca of dining and eye-catching street art.
But that’s not to say that Denver hasn’t retained its love for outdoor adventure. With the Rocky Mountains on its doorstep, even the most chilled-out traveller will feel the urge to get active. Not only is there the world-famous ski resorts, but you’ll also find stunning parks and hiking trails, as well as hiking and camping opportunities.
All in all, Denver offers something for everyone.
