When to Visit

The best time to visit Indonesia is between April and October when the weather is perfect for island hopping, snorkelling, and beach relaxation.

Bridging the Equator, Indonesia is hot all year round, with the only change coming between November and March when the country sees widespread rain, particularly in the south.

Although the rain may scupper your plans to relax by the beach, it does bring some pleasant changes. Indonesia’s rich collection of temples is often quieter this time of year, making exploration much more rewarding. The scenery is beautiful, and if you venture into the highlands, the temperatures are cooler, which can be a welcome change from the humid conditions on lower ground.

This period of the year is Bali's low season for the country. January has the most rainfall in Bali of any month. However, potential travellers shouldn't be out of it as, overall, Bali enjoys tropical weather, which means that whilst the rains are frequent during this period, it rarely, if ever, gets cold. Most activities can still be enjoyed during this time, with water parks and surfing being quite popular during this period.

Arguably, the best time to visit Bali, April through May, is when the temperature reaches perfect for sunbathing or going to the beach. Rarely reaching stifling temperatures, it remains pleasantly warm most of this time.

Long, warm days are the norm during Bali's driest year. The ever-present sun makes for the perfect companion as you go to the beach to enjoy the sun and the sea. Also, during this time, you may be able to visit one of the festivals going on at the time, from the Ubud Village Jazz Festival to the Sanur Village Festival.

As the last dry months die and it moves back into the rainy period, Bali starts to warm up again. With rising temperatures and frequent rain showers, Bali is an ideal location to visit during this time. Anyone who decides to visit can enjoy the mostly warm weather and festivals.

The rainy season is in full flow during these months, but don’t let the rain let you down. Enjoy all the great things Bali offers, even during rainy days. Go shopping in the comforts of the indoors at any of the great museums and art galleries in Ubud, or go shopping at the great collection of modern malls on the island.
