I am currently abroad on a Thomas Cook holiday booked by Barrhead Travel – what should I do?

The CAA is currently in the process of arranging aircraft to ensure the repatriation of customers who are due to come home on or before 6th October. If you are returning home after 7th October, your flight will be arranged with another airline by the CAA. I have a future Thomas Cook holiday booked with Barrhead Travel that is still to travel. What happens next?

We’re asking all of our customers to contact the branch in which they booked their holiday. The first step will be to make a claim to the CAA who are in charge of the ATOL bonding scheme which protects your money. Our team will help you every step of the way and explain how the process works. We will also support you with rebooking your holiday.

I have a flight only booking with Thomas Cook Airlines – will I get my money back?

All Barrhead Travel customers who have a flight only booking with Thomas Cook Airlines will receive a refund from Barrhead Travel. This is covered under Barrhead Travel’s airline failure insurance.

I was due to depart in the next few weeks – will my money be refunded before then?

All refunds (with the exception of flight only bookings) regardless of travel date will be issued by the CAA. Once your claim has been received, we will submit this to the CAA claims handlers on your behalf. Barrhead Travel is helping all customers to process these forms to help streamline and speed up the claims process. The CAA has not yet stated a time period of how long the settlement period may take.

What happens to my money? Will Barrhead Travel pay for my holiday to be rebooked?

In most cases where the holiday has been fully paid for, Barrhead Travel has already paid out to the travel supplier which in this case, is Thomas Cook. As this money is held by Thomas Cook, customers must claim their refunds through the CAA who operate the ATOL bonding scheme which protects package holidays and ATOL-protected flights. The ATOL protection scheme is designed to protect your money in the event of a travel supplier failure.

Any Thomas Cook package holiday falls under Thomas Cook’s ATOL and the financial reimbursement will come from their ATOL bond via the CAA. This is refunded directly to the customer and not to the travel agent.

I have a Direct Debit in place for my Thomas Cook holiday – when do I cancel this?

You should cancel this with your bank immediately.

Will holiday prices go up?

Please rest assured our consultants are committed to making sure they rebook all affected customers at the best possible price available. We work on live pricing from airlines, hotel partners, cruise lines and tour-operators and everything is subject to availability. Many operators work from a dynamic pricing model which means that prices are based on variables such as demand, peak dates of travel and regional airport differences.

I have a Thomas Cook package but my flights are with another airline – what happens to my booking?

All forward bookings that are part of a Thomas Cook package have been cancelled, regardless of the airline. Our team will be in touch with you to discuss next steps.

My holiday isn’t a Thomas Cook package but my flights are with Thomas Cook Airlines. What happens now?

Your holiday will be rebooked or refunded and Barrhead Travel will take care of this. Our team will advise you of your options. Your holiday will still be fully financially protected.

Our team will be on hand to help you process these forms as quickly as possible. They can also help you to rebook another holiday however payment for the new holiday will be the responsibility of the customer.
