France Ski Holidays

Home to some of the world's greatest ski areas, the spectacular peaks and high altitude ski resorts in France offer some of the best destinations for snow reliability. From traditional villages to purpose-built resorts, tree-lined runs to snow-sure glaciers - France ski resorts offer something for everyone.

Whatever your style and destination, you will find great freedom and joy here, perhaps even before you put down your first tracks. Imagine your excitement as the plane begins its descent into Lyon or Geneva. You’ve just finished your croissant and café au lait when you glance out the window and find yourself face to face with Mont-Blanc. The massive white dome and rocky needles pop with relief against the seamless blue sky. As the plane banks into landing position, you swear that you can already detect the crisp, clean smell of newly-fallen snow.

Ski info

France’s big ski areas set it apart. They bring plenty of skiing for a week and lots of variety for different abilities. Its resorts are higher than its Alpine neighbours and dotted with glaciers, so conditions are usually reliable.

Ski Schools

Raclette, tartiflette or classic fondue, accompanied by top-drawer local wines … French ski holidays are known for their excellent restaurants and local mountain specialities. Be sure to try Génépi, a traditional herbal digestif.

Hotels & accommodation

France has the biggest range of accommodation types. Lots of its resorts were purpose-built for skiers, filled with convenient apartments. Others have more traditional half-board hotels and catered chalets, or a mix of all three.

Best family ski resorts
Alpe d’Huez, Flaine and La Plagne have our own Crystal Childcare, and Flaine and La Tania were purpose-built with families in mind.

Best après ski resorts
Les Deux Alpes has a range of bars along its 2km main street, while Méribel and Mottaret are the centre of the Three Valleys’ après scene.

Best beginner ski resorts
Les Arc's tree-lined slopes are perfect for building confidence, as are La Rosière’s cruisy blue runs and Avoriaz's nursey area links to longer, gentle pistes.

Best high-altitude ski resorts
Val Thorens is Europe’s highest resort at 2,300m – guaranteeing good snow – Tignes and Val d’Isère are close behind.
