You’ll find Almeria nestled between the mountains and the sea, away from all hustle-and-bustle of the usual tourist areas. It’s a fairly new addition to Spain’s portfolio of holiday destinations and offers a much calmer (and more authentic!) holiday experience.
The big holiday resort here is Roquetas de Mar, even if it is small by usual Spanish standards. It was once upon a time a fishing village – but now it is a seaside town with stylish shopping malls, seafront restaurants, tiny tapas bars and Brit-style pubs.
There’s also the port city of Almeria, which is only a stone’s throw away from Roquetas de Mar. Granada is also a great option and is home to the impressive Alhambra Palace. Plus, there’s an abundance of national parks - Cabo de Gata being one of the most popular.
