Vail's sister resort of Beaver Creek is elegant and up-market. In the centre the walkways are heated and escalators help your tired legs and transport you up to the ski lifts. Like Vail, Beaver Creek is included under the Colorado pass, so a great variety of terrain awaits you.

Getting Around:
The Colorado lift pass allows you to ski 5 different ski areas on one pass. They are all within an hour's drive of each other so with your rental car, getting around is easy.

Eating Out

Recommended is the Mexican restaurant by the lift in Vail Village. Die-hard skiers looking for a hearty lunch will love the Smoke House, where the Cream of Chicken soup is a real hit. The recently refurbished Two Elk Lodge has spectacular views, or you can eat rösti and other Alpine dishes at the Koltenburg Castle at Lionshead. In town, get the ultimate dining thrill for around $80 a head at Wildflower in the Lodge Hotel.

Ski Area Terrain

Beginners:
At both Vail and Beaver Creek there are gentle nursery slopes on which to build your confidence and practise your new-found skills!

Intermediates:
Vail is an intermediates' paradise with cruising terrain liberally distributed all over the mountain. Immaculately groomed runs await you in Beaver Creek.

Advanced:
The Back Bowls will attract you like a magnet. Blue Sky Basin has glade skiing and the double-back bump runs. The Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek is definitely not for the faint-hearted!

Snowboarders:
There are 2 terrain parks in Beaver Creek, one that includes a 120m/400ft long super-pipe. The park in Vail has over 30 rails and lots of jumps.
