Japan is an island nation situated in Far East Asia it is divided into four different islands with Honshu being the largest and most populated. Nicknamed the "Land of the rising sun" Japan blends the past and future perfectly with contrasting land and buildings; glass fronted buildings and neon lit streets stand alongside old wooden shacks and traditional temples. There are thousands of cities in Japan; the capital and financial centre is Tokyo with a population of around 12 million, this bustling modern metropolis is the futuristic side of Japan and has something that will interest every visitor. There are many places to visit in Japan; Mount Fuji is Japans highest mountain standing at a towering 3,776m or 12,388ft high, the mountain can be climbed during the summer season. Tokyo's Disneyland resort is fun for all the family with many attractions for all ages, the theme part is almost a complete copy of Disneyland resort in California. The Tokyo National Museum has the largest collection of Japanese art in the world, there are many exhibits, which range from antique kimonos to pottery and archaeological finds. The museum has five different buildings that have many galleries and exhibitions. The Imperial Gift Park surrounds the National museum and has a zoo, art, science and western art museums. Summer in Japan is from June to August and is usually very hot and sticky, winter months can be freezing cold. The best time of the year to visit is during spring and autumn when the temperatures are a bit more bearable.
