Set at the foot of the breathtaking Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, Kaprun is one of the most popular resorts of the region. It offers an excellent range of skiing, including high altitude skiing with guaranteed snow. The 'Optimum' Sports Centre is the pride of the village, with its fantastic facilities. Combined with a wide variety of bars and restaurants, Kaprun has lots to offer - on and off the piste. Kaprun is also a popular summer destination. There are a wide range of winter-sports activities including snowboarding, ice-skating, ice hockey, curling, tobogganing, sleigh rides; sports centre with indoor/outdoor pools and saunas; tennis; bowling; horse riding; squash; a few museums, including classic-car option and local heritage. In summer popular activities include golf and walking with many hiking trails starting from the village. For nightlife in Kaprun there are a good selection of bars and discos/nightclubs, one of the more popular haunts being the Baum Bar; live music on offer ranges from traditional zither music to rock bands. Apres-ski continues in many places into the small hours. Also floodlit cross-country trails and tobogganing.
