Estreito da Calheta Holidays

The name literally means ‘narrow valley’ and was called that when people first settled in here in the 16th century as it looks like a deep canyon or valley. With truly lovely golden beaches and sand, there is no wonder that this is one of the main tourist attractions for those on the south-western coast. A large promenade and a marina make this a perfect stop if you’re looking for that perfect beach holiday. The sand here is very special; it was actually imported from the Sahara desert, so you can experience the brilliant sands of the desert. The beaches do tend to get crowded in the summer months as they are popular with the locals as well as the tourists, but you should still be able to find a nice spot for you and your family or friends. Throughout the promenade and the marina, and also on the beach, you will find that there are plenty of different places to go for some food or drink, all being offered at relatively low prices, you may also be able to find some fresh fish catch of the day on the menu as many nearby towns and villages are still operateing fishing villages.
