Being Madeira’s second largest town, you’d expect Machico to have a decent variety of activities and facilities, well you would be correct.
Filled to the brim with pretty cafes, shops, restaurants and bars there will always be the opportunity to sit back, relax and maybe socialise with the locals and get the heads up from them on the best places to go.
Machico was the first place that Portuguese discoverers landed in Madeira, not in Funchal where many people think. Rich in history, this town also has a modern, chic feel to it so it is a great sense of old and new. There is a championship golf course very nearby called Campo de Golfe where you can experience a round of golf in an exotic and dreamy location.
This area is very good for going on long walks in, offering some fantastic views of the Atlantic ocean and some spectacular views of the landscape and older buildings.
