Salina Bay The scenic advantages of Salina Bay Salina Bay is named after the salt pans cut into the inner section of this sea inlet. The water on both sides of the bay is suitable for swimming off the rocks. The bay is very lively with holidaymakers throughout the summer. Market/Suitability More upmarket than neighbouring Bugibba and Qawra. Location/Contact Location: 9 mls NW of Valletta; less than 1 ml from Qawra and Bugibba. 10 mls N of the airport. Position: On the NE coast around a large inlet next to the Qawra promontory. Accommodation The whole area offers a vast choice of hotels and self-catering apartments. Many aparthotels and complexes allow the independence of self-catering but with the facilities of a hotel. Beach No sandy beaches in the area, but good bathing from large, flat rocks or the hotels' seaside lidos. The nearest sandy beach is at Golden Bay, 5½ mls from Bugibba. Shopping Bugibba is the main shopping centre, offering the usual range of tourist souvenirs. Entertainment Daytime: water sports in nearby resorts; horse riding in Qawra. Nightlife: Bugibba is the main centre of activity, with discos and karaoke bars, but each area has its own bars and cafes, and the larger hotels hold barbecues and entertainment; a couple of the hotels in Qawra have nightclubs. Eating Out All the area is well provided with tourist cafes and simple restaurants. Old St Paul's Bay offers a choice of good, more sophisticated dining.
