Being a large and spacious town, it is no wonder that the high-rise hotels have fast become a firm feature of the landscape. Don’t let that trick you into thinking that Monte Gordo is all commercial and has no tradition or beauty because you would be wrong in thinking that.
Separating the promenade and the beach, the main road is lined with a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars and on the opposite side of the road there is the large open promenade lined with benches, palm trees and the golden sands off the beach.
The beachfront is placed with the rather picturesque backdrop of the high rise hotels and casinos and is laced with kiosks, beach bars and restaurants – so you can rest assure that if you want a relaxing drink on the beach or a spot of food, you will be spoilt for choice.
As the beach in Monte Gordo is extremely flat and wide, it makes it perfectly safe for little children so they can enjoy a paddle too, especially as the waters are warmer at this end of the Algarve.
