About Altinkum

Altinkum, or Didim as it is called, is set on this fantastic geographical part of the world. It is 200 km south from the Turkey’s third largest city, Izmir; 73 km from Kusadasi and 110 km from Bodrum, which are the two important tourist resorts of the country. There’s a wealth of fascinating places to visit. Wander around the colossal ruins of the famous Temple of Apollo, which I have already talked about, an impressive ancient monument, including the head of Medusa and its delicate carvings that was brilliantly carved out thousands of years ago which still looks pristine. An excursion to popular Pamukkale with its hot springs and white limestone cliffs is worth a visit. One of the wonders of the world, the remains of the temple of Artemis is a must.

Set on a sandy bay, Altinkum is a purpose-built resort with a relaxed and informal atmosphere. This is a place for people who love the beach, and there are no fewer than four within easy reach. The Main Beach in front of the resort is a long wide stretch of golden sand, where you can bask in the sun, potter in a pedalo or try out a range of water sports.

Then last, but not least, one more site to discover: Pamukkale (meaning cotton castle) famous for its calcium terraces, which really looks like they were made from cotton. You will admit that nowhere else but in scenery of snow you can see this much white all around.

The 3rd Beach is arguably the best beach in Altinkum. This is the quietist, cleanest and friendliest place to relax and swim, it's waters are clear and sparkling. Free transport to and from the beach via the Penguin Bar is more than what you can bargain for. The beach is excellent for swimming and a superb environment for watersports.

Altinkum combines the ingredients of a fun-filled, beach holiday with a simple, unhurried atmosphere. It is a charming informal resort and offers a superb beach, fascinating ancient ruins, relaxed nightlife and watersports.

The people in Altinkum are warm, great fun and very friendly. You can walk along the prom where it gets noisy at night with karaoke bars etc. There are great restaurants, some cheap, some not so cheap, where you can converse with the locals and also other tourists. All in all, Altinkum is a very good holiday destination with lots of friendly people.
