The "Sun Coast" is a well-developed tourist area extending along virtually the entire Mediterranean coast of Andalucia, the southernmost province of Spain. Covering over 100 mls, the Costa del Sol includes 24 fine beaches and several large resorts, like Torremolinos and Marbella, with a backdrop of mountains along most of its length. The area is well-served by marinas, golf courses and all forms of leisure activities. In the 1960s it was a favourite with film stars and celebrities; later it gained notoriety (and the nickname "Costa del Crime") as the bolt-hole of fugitive British criminals.
