About Sharm el Sheikh

Sharm El Sheikh is one of the most developed tourist destinations in the southern tip of Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, with sun, sea, sand, the luxury of five star hotels and one of the best diving spots in the world it is popular with holidaymakers and water sports enthusiasts.  Sharm El Sheikh blends the ultra modern with age-old traditions with Bedouins and colourful tents alongside the bustling tourist resorts.

As with all major tourist resorts there is everything for everyone's tastes in Sharm El Sheikh, some of these include; casinos, golfing, nightclubs and health facilities.  Some outdoor activities available are; diving, snorkelling, windsurfing plus many other water sports, there are also camel riding and desert safaris.

The climate in Sharm El Sheikh is very dry with two main seasons, winter and summer. The winter months are between November and March and during these months it is warm but a lot colder at night, there are also some rainy spells that last a few seconds. The summer months are very hot and dry during the day when the temperature is in the forties; at night the temperature doesn't fall too much and is still in the thirties.

Outdoor Activities

Sharm el Sheikh has millions of tourists visiting the city each year and an expansion of the facilities and activities in the city means there is something for everyone to enjoy.  Watersports are very popular activites including scuba diving and snorkelling; the Red Sea is one of the best spots in the world with crystal clear water.  Horse riding lets visitors experience the desert and countryside of the Sinai region, horse rides last all afternoon and the sunsets in the desert are stunning.  

Mountain climbing and trekking is also popular with the highest peak in Egypt being St. Catherine Mountain at 2,624 metres above sea level, the mountain is best suited for experience climbers and offers breath taking views across the city.  After climbing the mountain visit St Catherine's monastery built between 527 and 565 AD, the chapel is built around the burning bush where God spoke to Moses; it is one of the most popular sites in Egypt due to its historical and religious significance.

Coloured Canyon Coloured Canyon is an awe inspiring natural wonder of the Sinai where visitors can walk between the sandstone walls streaked with purple, yellow, red and gold. Parts of the canyon walls reach up to 40 metres and was formed over millions of years by the natural elements; perfect for photographing and exploring. 

Shopping

There are two types of shopping to enjoy in Sharm el Sheikh; shopping malls and traditional souq markets and local bazaars.  Naama Bay in the centre of Sharm el Sheikh has an enormous variety of shops selling everything from carpets and furniture to gold and silver jewellery.  Old Market is where visitors can stroll through the narrow streets and alleyways with shop after shop selling Egypt and Sinai souvenirs and local crafts and food.  La Strada is the new entertainment centre of Sharm el Sheikhs new hotspot Nabq, with international brand shops, business offices, coffee shops and an up and coming hypermarket.
