Barrhead Travel is a company which takes its responsibilities to communities and the environment seriously.
As a UK company, we care about both the communities in which we operate, and as a travel agency, we also care about the communities to which our customers travel.
We believe in ‘giving something back’ and support selected charities both at home and abroad. In the UK, this includes giving all employees the opportunity to take part in community projects in company time, and holding charity events throughout the year to raise funds for local good causes. The company sponsors a child abroad through Plan International, providing funds for education and healthcare. The charity is one of the oldest and largest children’s development organisations, and works in 48 developing countries across the globe, promoting children’s rights and lifting them out of poverty. Barrhead Travel strives to protect the environment and works closely with the Carbonme organisation to raise funds for tree planting, in order to offset carbon emissions.
Our employees are encouraged to use resources wisely, and to recycle waste wherever possible. Our company also supports ABTA’s environmental initiatives, because wherever people go on holiday, however they get there, and whatever they do there, those activities have environmental impacts. These initiatives are :
Travelife – This scheme recognises the environmental and social improvements made by accommodation providers, by way of Gold, Silver and Bronze awards
Reduce My Footprint – This is the travel industry’s climate programme, designed to reduce the effects of travel on climate change. Carbon emissions can be offset through a variety of projects.
The Travel Foundation – This responsible tourism charity supports environmental and community programmes designed to help local businesses work with the travel industry.
Barrhead Travel will continue to develop its Responsible Tourism strategy in order to benefit both the environment and communities in the UK and overseas.
